About our Rector, REVEREND ROBERT W. (BILL) HYDE
The Reverend Robert W. (Bill) Hyde, a native of Jackson , Mississippi, joined St. Thomas as the Acting Rector on November 28, 2004 and was subsequently called to be our permanent rector on August 23, 2005. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where he received a BS in Civil Engineering and the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 1994. Subsequently, he was ordained Deacon on June 24, 1994, and Priest on December 21, 1994, by the Bishop of Mississippi.

After ordination Fr. Hyde served as the Rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Brandon, Mississippi. In 1998 he was called to serve as Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Creator, in Clinton, Mississippi. In 2001, his wife, Lillian, was accepted as a Postulant by the Diocese of Mississippi and began her seminary education. In June of 2002, the Hydes moved to Austin, where Fr. Hyde served as the Interim Rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church for 19 months, before moving to a similar position at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown. In both interim positions, he has guided congregations through a process of rediscovery and the calling of a new rector.

Prior to attending seminary Fr. Hyde worked for 20 years in the highway and heavy construction industry. After graduation from the University of Mississippi, he was commissioned an Ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps of the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the Naval Air Station, at Lemoore, California, and served as the Asst. Resident Officer of Construction. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Jackson, Mississippi, and began his career in the construction industry. During his career he was involved in the management of three companies.

Fr. Hyde is married to Lillian, who was ordained in May 2005, and is currently serving as the Rector of St. George's Episcopal Church in Texas City, Texas. They have three adult children, two sons, Skip and Andy, and a daughter, Aubrey and two grandchildren. Pictured below is Fr. Bill Hyde, and his family: wife Lillian, and son who served in Iraq.
